Director of Product Development - Medical Devices

Major Responsibilities include:
  • Plan for and guide a major product or product line from concept/definition phase through realization/commercialization, enhancement, and eventual retirement.
  • Develop/Contribute to Overall Roadmap/Business Plan - Responsible for product/solution throughout life cycle, contribute product and customer process related expertise to development of product portfolio and strategy, contribute to product-specific market analysis.
  • Lead the product development process by ensuring that classic product management principles and effective project management methodologies are applied.
  • Oversee, monitor, and report progress of in-house and external development projects, partnership developments and major sustaining engineering projects.
  • Competitive Awareness: Utilize market, competitive and financial analyses to identify business performance wins and losses, in cooperation with corresponding resources. Recommend and implement product changes to close gaps.
  • Develop Product Positioning - Identify SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) components and respond accordingly, driving solutions with a minimum of supervision.
  • Identify and manage disruptive technologies with both offensive and defensive strategies.
  • Provide a balance of “inbound" and “outbound" marketing for the product line, including a rigorous approach to market segmentation and identifying new product opportunities.
  • Maintains good communication within the team, other groups involved in the project and executive management.
  • Proactive - anticipates problems and forms plans before the project suffers. Identifies and mitigates risks of the assigned project - Identifying risks, creating risk mitigation plans and minimizing risk
  • Prepares and presents project status reports to a range of audiences - Senior Executives to Management.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in technology, automation, workflow, regulatory and related items and continuously monitor and update plans accordingly to take advantage of emerging opportunities and minimize product and company weaknesses.
  • Take aggressive and immediate action when necessary to ensure product reliability.
  • Take lead with Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality in identifying, prioritizing and resolving product line issues.
  • Develop and consider alternatives both within the product line and with other product lines to establish tradeoffs that meet strategic and financial goals.

 Requirements
Qualifications
  • BS in a technical field and an MBA
  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Product Development
  • Experience with defibrillation devices a plus
  • 5+ years of project, product and/or personnel management
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make complex ideas understandable by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify, interface with and influence.
  • Demonstrated energy, drive, and edge.
  • Proven ability to recruit, hire, train, motivate and manage professional team members.
  • Experience working in a global environment is a plus.
