UFC feed mills receive HACCP certification

WINTHROP - United Farmers Cooperative, Winthrop, has received third-party certification by Facility Certification Institute (FCI) for the implementation of its Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Program for its Feed Mills located in Klossner and LeSueur.
This certification exceeds the requirements set by the Food Modernization Act in 2009 and provides an internationally recognized standard for the products produced at United Farmers Cooperative.
Becoming HACCP certified means the facility demonstrates and ensures continuous improvements in delivering safe, wholesome livestock feed for the growth and care of animals.
These are one-of-a-kind, voluntary programs. Certified facilities go above and beyond federal requirements to ensure the highest standards in manufacturing and processing are followed each and every day. The feed industry makes a major contribution to food safety, nutrition and the environment, and it plays a critical role in the production of healthy, wholesome meat, milk and eggs.
The HACCP certification signifies that UFC has embraced the feed industry's role in creating feed-based programs; doing its part to reduce food safety risks, is participating in an approved risk-management program, and is aggressively practicing risk reduction.
FCI's HACCP Program is a systematic approach to the identification, evaluation and control of food-safety hazards. This management system encompasses the analysis and control of three types of hazards: biological, chemical, and physical. The implementation of HACCP echoes the quality control efforts that are paramount to United Farmers Cooperatives way of doing business. Quality control is the job of everyone involved in formulating, manufacturing, packaging, and delivering the feed.
United Farmers Cooperative was established in 1915 in Lafayette MN, and now services agricultural producers across twelve Minnesota counties and eight communities. United Farmers Cooperative Feed Division employs 18 people and services customers across that trade territory in south central Minnesota. The feed mills are located in Klossner and LeSueur, along with retail bag locations in Lafayette, Winthrop and Norseland.
